In excess of twenty females claim instances of sexual assault at a Quebec spa, legal action in the form of a class action suit is being sought

In a shocking turn of events, a class action lawsuit has been filed against Nordik Spa-Nature, the largest spa in North America located in Chelsea, Que., near Ottawa. The lawsuit was initiated on behalf of a woman who alleges sexual assault by a male massage therapist at the spa in late 2024.

According to the lawsuit, the woman visited the spa with a friend and alleges the assault occurred during a session where she was receiving treatment alone. She claims she was inappropriately touched while a towel was over her face, leaving her frozen due to shock and unable to react or speak.

The woman stated that she did not know what was happening during the incident. The therapist is accused of throwing a towel over her face during the session, obstructing her view, and failing to inform the client which parts of the body would be treated. The therapist is also alleged to have not provided the option for the client to remain partially clothed.

The lawsuit further claims that Nordik Spa-Nature failed to take adequate steps to prevent sexual assault incidents, despite being aware of similar allegations. A Montreal law firm, Lambert Avocats, is representing the claimant in the lawsuit. Philippe Brault, a partner at the firm, is leading the case.

The lawsuit was submitted after the woman's visit to the spa in late 2024 and was filed last week in Quebec Superior Court. However, the class action request has not yet been certified by the court.

The Quebec Massage Therapists Order (Ordre des massothérapeutes du Québec) reported several suspected cases of sexual harassment by massage therapists at the Nordik Spa-Nature wellness center in Chelsea, Quebec. At least five other cases of alleged sexual assault involving different massage therapists at the spa have been reported.

In a statement, Nordik Spa-Nature stated that they intend to cooperate fully with any investigation and will comment on the matter "at the appropriate time." One therapist has been convicted in connection with a separate incident.

The woman who initially filed the lawsuit reported the incident to police after it occurred. The law firm representing the claimant has been contacted by more than 20 additional women from both Quebec and Ontario with similar allegations related to massage sessions at the spa.

As the investigation continues, the public is encouraged to share their experiences and concerns with the appropriate authorities to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all spa-goers.
