Germany's Basketball Federation Sees Opportunity in EuroBasket Title Run

After a series of upsets that saw favourites like Serbia and France eliminated, Germany's basketball federation sees a great opportunity to win the EuroBasket title for the first time in 32 years.

However, the team's coach, Alex Mumbru, has been dealing with a stomach illness, which forced him to miss the entire preliminary round of the tournament. Mumbru returned to the sidelines for the round of 16 victory against Portugal in Riga on Saturday, but the question about his fitness and ability to lead the team for the entire game remains.

In his absence, assistant coach Alan Ibrahimagic took charge, and it is most likely that he will continue to lead the team for the rest of the tournament. The Bundestrainer's public appearance will take place at 4:00 PM local time (3:00 PM German time) today, Monday, in Riga, where Mumbru is expected to address the media.

The quarterfinal game against Slovenia, featuring NBA star Luka Doncic, is scheduled for Wednesday. The federation wants clarity on the division of tasks before the game, and Mumbru may not yet be ready to coach for the full duration of the game. However, he can still be with the team and contribute his ideas, without the stress of coaching during the 40 minutes of gameplay.

The back-and-forth between Mumbru and Ibrahimagic during the game against Portugal caused some unrest on the bench, but the team managed to secure a victory. The opponent's unrest was not enough to derail Germany's momentum, and the team is now focused on the quarterfinal match against Slovenia.

Alex Mumbru faced the media at the team hotel in Riga for the first time during the championship. He has previously handed over responsibility for games to Ibrahimagic, and the team's success in the round of 16 suggests that this arrangement may continue to work well.

The EM title has not been won by the team in 32 years, and the quarterfinal game against Slovenia presents a significant opportunity for Germany to advance in the tournament. With a clear division of tasks and a focused team, the federation is hopeful that this year could be the year they finally bring home the EuroBasket title.
