Mumbru, the basketball coach, has been released from the hospital.
The German national basketball team is gearing up for their upcoming matches at the European Championship (EM), with a significant development in the team's coaching setup. Alex Mumbru, the team's coach, has been discharged from the hospital in Tampere, Finland, and has returned to the team hotel.
Mumbru had been hospitalised since last Monday, suffering from an "acute abdomen" as confirmed by team doctor Oliver Putz. However, the coach has been making a steady recovery and was able to return to the team hotel on Saturday evening, according to the German Basketball Association (DBB) announcement.
Despite Mumbru's temporary absence, the team has continued to perform well under the leadership of his assistant, Alan Ibrahimagic. Ibrahimagic has led the team in all three previous games, including the EM opener against Montenegro, as well as against Sweden and Lithuania. Notably, the team has not lost a game under Ibrahimagic's leadership so far, having won all three games.
The team will face Britain in the preliminary round game on Monday at 3:15 PM, which will be broadcast on RTL and MagentaSport. Ibrahimagic will lead the team as head coach for this game, as no information regarding the coach for the game against host Finland on Wednesday has been provided yet.
Meanwhile, the doctor responsible for the German national basketball team is Oliver Pütz, who has been the team doctor since 2009. Pütz specialises in orthopedics, trauma surgery, and sports orthopedics, and serves as the medical director at the Orthopädie am Gürzenich Campus in Cologne. He focuses on functional diagnostics and evidence-based therapy for musculoskeletal issues.
Mumbru had been complaining of discomfort for days before his hospitalization, as reported by his assistant. The team took its first rest day on the day when team doctor Oliver Putz reported about Mumbru's condition. Mumbru will continue to receive medical care at the team hotel as he recovers.
The game against host Finland is scheduled for Wednesday, and more updates regarding the coaching staff and Mumbru's health are expected to be released in due course. The team's impressive performance under Ibrahimagic's leadership so far bodes well for their upcoming matches, and fans are eagerly awaiting the team's continued success at the EM.
