In the vibrant city of Bonn, preparations are underway for the upcoming municipal elections on September 14, 2025, with a potential runoff on September 28, 2025. The city is in dire need of about 450 experienced election helpers to ensure a smooth and democratic process.

Election chairpersons and secretaries are the backbone of the election committee. Chairpersons are responsible for leading the team, coordinating processes during the day, and determining the result from 6 pm in the evening. On the other hand, secretaries keep minutes during the election day, document the results of the vote counting, and participate in the determination of the result.

To prepare for their assignment, election helpers can utilise the learning platform at wahlhelfer.our website. This resource offers video clips that illustrate various tasks in an election committee, a glossary of elections, and a list of the most frequently asked questions and answers.

To be eligible, individuals must be at least 16 years old and possess German or EU citizenship. The city pays a fee of between 80 and 130 euros for the voluntary assistance on the day of the municipal election, and between 50 and 110 euros for the assistance in the runoff election.

The polling stations will be open from 8 am to 6 pm on election day, and the counting of votes will begin afterwards. An election team consists of eight persons for the municipal election and seven persons for the possible runoff election.

A mandatory training session for election chairpersons will take place at the Lichtburg on Saturday, 13 September. Interested parties can apply online at our website/electionhelpers or by phone at 0201 88-12344.
