Music genres Classical and Klezmer collide in the Sirba Octet performance
The Jewish Cultural Festival, set to take place in Osnabrück, Germany from September 4 to 7, 2025, is set to end with a musical bang. The closing concert will feature the unique ensemble, the Sirba Octet, a Paris-based group of classically trained musicians specialising in traditional Jewish melodies from Southeast Europe.
The Sirba Octet, known for their classically arranged repertoire, was inspired by Richard Schmoucler's memories of family celebrations and the musical tradition of Klezmer music. Schmoucler, a violinist who previously played in philharmonic orchestras, invented a unique sound with the Sirba Octet.
The approach, quality, shared playing style, and sound experience of the Sirba Octet are unlike any other. Their performances around the globe are widely acclaimed, and they have been secured for the closing concert in Osnabrück, Germany.
The concert, taking place on September 7, 2025, promises to be a genuine musical highlight. The Sirba Octet's program offers a fascinating insight into Jewish music culture, often accompanied by the popular folk dance, Sirba, in Southeastern Europe.
Various venues in the city will host performances by artists promoting vibrant Jewish culture. Readings will take place at the Felix-Nussbaum-Haus, film screenings at the Cinema Artehouse, and concerts at the OsnabrückHalle. There will be opportunities for encounters at various other locations during the festival.
Intendant Avi Toubiana is enthusiastic about securing the Sirba Octet for the closing concert. With their unique sound and connection to Jewish and Roma musicians, the Sirba Octet is sure to leave a lasting impression on the audience. Don't miss out on this musical journey as the Jewish Cultural Festival comes to a close in Osnabrück, Germany.
