Music icons such as Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, and Martin are honored at the MTV Awards event, celebrating the realm of music.

In a star-studded event, the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) returned to the UBS Arena with a bang on September 7. The night was filled with electrifying performances, heartfelt tributes, and some unexpected surprises.

One of the highlights of the evening was Lady Gaga's win for Artist of the Year. Co-executive producers of her latest album "Mayhem," Gaga herself, Andrew Watt, and her fiancé Michael Polansky, must have been thrilled to see her take home the coveted award. Gaga dedicated her win to her fans and paid homage to Polansky.

The night also saw a special tribute to rock legend Ozzy Osbourne. His grandkids referred to his popular song "Crazy Train" during their message, and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, YUNGBLUD, and Nuno Bettencourt performed a medley of Osbourne's hits. Jack Osbourne and several of his children shared a video message about the icon, expressing that it would make him happy to see musicians carrying on his legacy and inspiring the next generation of rockers.

Ozzy Osbourne gained household fame on MTV with his family's reality series "The Osbournes" and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2005. He was celebrated at the VMAs with a medley of his greatest hits.

Ricky Martin was another big winner of the night, receiving the first-ever Latin Icon Award. Martin's VMAs performance served as an anniversary tribute to his 1999 breakout VMAs debut, where he made history as the first male Latin artist to win best pop video. He dedicated the award to his four kids.

The VMAs kicked off with a freewheeling spirit, featuring a video of Doja Cat mimicking '80s MTV personality Max Headroom during LL Cool J's opening monologue. Ariana Grande presented the Video Vanguard Award to Mariah Carey with a heartfelt tribute. Carey delivered a career-spanning medley of hits at the VMAs.

Busta Rhymes received the first-ever MTV VMA Rock the Bells Visionary Award during the show and performed a medley of his hits. Taylor Swift and Beyoncé were nominated in the Artist of the Year category, but Gaga's win left them tied for the most awarded artist in VMAs history for another year.

The 2025 MTV VMAs will be broadcast by CBS for the first time and will also be simulcast on MTV and available for streaming on Paramount+ in the United States. The 2022 VMAs was indeed a night to remember, setting the stage for the future of music awards shows.
