Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea Lends Support to Brothers Rowing Across Pacific

Flea, the iconic bassist for Red Hot Chili Peppers, has shown his support for three brothers attempting to row across the Pacific Ocean. Ewan, Jamie, and Lachlan Maclean, who are currently 100 days into their non-stop, unsupported row from Peru to Australia, are raising funds for clean water projects in Madagascar.

The brothers, who are powering their way across the ocean in two-hour shifts, have faced numerous challenges during their journey. Lachlan Maclean, who turned 27 while rowing the Pacific, was washed overboard during a violent storm but was saved by a safety line.

Flea, a close friend of the Maclean brothers, spoke about his motivation for supporting them, saying, "I'm doing this to be of service." He reflected on his past experiences of eating poorly while touring in a van, stating, "For years and years, we toured in a van, sitting up all through the night, driving through the night for like six months on end. You kind of start feeling like a caged animal, just eating shitty food."

Now, Flea contrasts his current eating habits with his past experiences, saying, "Now we eat like kings." The brothers are indeed living in relative luxury compared to their van tours, with their boat, named Rose Emily, having no engine and no sail.

The Maclean brothers have raised around £218,000 so far for clean water projects in Madagascar. If you'd like to donate, a link is provided.

Flea shared his motivation for continuing to perform with Red Hot Chili Peppers after more than four decades, saying, "I could have retired, but I chose to continue performing because it is a job to bring joy to people through music. There's definitely times when I'm running on fumes and I've got nothing, but I keep going because I love what I do."

The entire trip is approximately 9,000 miles long, and the brothers are expected to complete their challenge within the next 20-30 days. You can follow their progress on the podcast, Dinner with the Macleans, which is available on Spotify and YouTube.

Let's wish the Maclean brothers the best of luck in their incredible journey and commend Flea for his continued dedication to bringing joy to people through music.
