Morgenland Festival Osnabrück 2025: A Global Celebration of Music and Culture

Prepare for an unforgettable musical journey as the Morgenland Festival Osnabrück returns in the summer of 2025, taking place from June 28 to July 11. This year's edition promises a diverse lineup of international artists, innovative collaborations, and a captivating fringe programme.

The festival will kick off with a star-studded opening, featuring the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, composer Kayhan Kalhor, and conductor Alan Gilbert. Kayhan Kalhor's new double concerto titled "Venus in the Mirror" will be presented at this opening event.

Throughout the festival, a variety of artists will grace the stages of Osnabrück. Among them are Dawn of Midi, Johnny Gandelsman, Brooklyn Rider, Issam Rafea, Asya Fateyeva, François Rabbath, Layale Chaker, Dinuk Wijeratne, Christine Zayed, Tarek Yamani, the Cello Octet Amsterdam, Karen Ouzounian, Lembit Beecher, Nai Barghouti, Jake Charkey, Kinan Azmeh, and Shabnam Parvaresh.

For those seeking a more interactive experience, the festival offers a diverse fringe program. Workshops, artist talks, and participatory formats invite festival-goers to engage with the artists and their work on a deeper level.

One of the highlights of the July 11 concert will be an extraordinary collaboration between Rami Khalife and Francesco Tristano. Two pianos will face each other, unfolding a choreographed interplay of sound, space, and movement. In this concert, music becomes a tangible form of visual and acoustic encounter.

Another unique collaboration is between composer and sound designer Erdem Helvacıoğlu and the Osnabrück Youth Choir. Their work combines European choral music with electronic textures, promising a fresh and innovative take on traditional music.

Furthermore, Kinan Azmeh, a Syrian clarinetist and composer, will be the guest curator for the festival. He will also have a conversation and a musical performance with 94-year-old French-Syrian double bassist François Rabbath during the festival.

The Morgenland Festival Osnabrück 2025 is proudly supported by the City of Osnabrück, Lower Saxony Foundation, Lower Saxony Savings Bank Foundation, Sparkasse Osnabrück Foundation, Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture, NDR Music Promotion in Lower Saxony, Osnabrücker Land Regional Association, and Sievert SE.
