National Socialist display at a local police station in the Rhine-Erft district, according to Polish authorities (Case number: 250902-4)
In a significant educational outing, Frank Rock, the County Administrator of Rhein-Erft-Kreis, recently visited the "Some were neighbors" exhibition at the police building in Bergheim-Zieverich. Accompanied by students from Berufskolleg Bergheim, the visit lasted for an hour.
The exhibition, a travelling display from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM), is intended to promote understanding and awareness of the importance of democracy among young people. It is currently open to school classes and is part of the extremism prevention work of the Rhein-Erft-Kreis Police.
The "Some were neighbors" exhibition is a collaborative effort between the USHMM and German partners, including the Geschichtsort Villa ten Hompel. The aim is to present and develop educational programs linked to the exhibition's theme of neighborly behaviour during the Holocaust.
Frank Rock underscored the importance of understanding and protecting democratic values, particularly for young people. He emphasised that those who learn early on the importance of democratic values will defend and strengthen them in the future.
On the last day of the visit, a vocational school class from Bergheim was also accompanied by the County Administrator during the guided tour. Several school classes have already visited the exhibition, indicating a strong interest in this educational opportunity.

Information about this visit was transmitted via news aktuell from the Polizei Rhein-Erft-Kreis. The exhibition is currently on display in the premises of the central police building in Bergheim-Zieverich.
For those interested, the "Some were neighbors" exhibition offers a unique opportunity to learn about the past actions that have shaped our current understanding of democracy. It serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding democratic values and fostering a culture of respect and understanding among neighbours.
