NC resident scores $1 million jackpot from scratch-off game ticket
A lucky fellow hailing from Bolivia, North Carolina hit the jackpot after winning a life-changing prize from the North Carolina Education Lottery's $10 Million Spectacular ticket.
Originally receiving lottery tickets as a gift for his birthday, this unprepared man decided to give it a whirl.
He purchased his $50 ticket for the $10 Million Spectacular game at Han-Dee Hugo's on Southport-Supply Road Southeast in Bolivia. With a playful joke, he claimed he simply chose the ticket with the "juices flowing".
Surprisingly, upon scratching off the ticket, the Bolivia resident initially thought he had won a mere $50. When reality struck, he discovered that he had won a $1m tier-two prize.
"It's pure insanity," the stunned winner admitted.
With plans to help his family with his newfound fortune, the lucky man recently visited the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters to claim his windfall.
Offered the choice between annuity payments of $50,000 per year for 20 years, or a one-time lump sum of $600,000, the winner opted for the lump sum.
After taxes, his bank account received a significant boost of $430,514.
Remarkably, two top prizes of $10 million still haven't been claimed for the $10 Million Spectacular ticket. Players who purchase the $50 ticket have a chance to win prizes ranging from $50 to $10 million. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.11, making success a slim but exciting possibility.
The chances of winning the top prize of $10 million are 1 in 3,255,582, but two of the originally five such prizes still remain unclaimed. The odds of winning the $1m tier-two prize are 1 in 813,895.5.
Horde-like commotions over lower-tier prizes also continue with four out of 20 $100,000 tier-3 prizes still up for grabs. A multitude of prizes in the smaller tiers also await the lucky and bold.
