New Mac mini Arrives with Powerful M4 Chip and Compact Design

Apple has announced the release of the new Mac mini, a powerful and compact desktop computer that is now available for preorder and set to ship starting November 8. The new Mac mini features the M4 chip, similar to the one in the new iMac, and comes in two versions: a baseline model with the M4 chip for $600, and a more expensive model with the M4 Pro for $1,400.

The M4 Pro version of the chip, available in the more expensive Mac mini, includes a 12-core CPU and 16-core GPU with a base of 24GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD storage. The M4 chip, which was first introduced with this year's iPad Pro, is capable of 38 TOPS (trillions of operations per second), a significant increase from the M2's 16 TOPS. The M4 Pro chip in the new Mac mini has a 75% increase in memory bandwidth compared to the M3 Pro from last year.

The new Mac mini is smaller in height than its previous model, measuring 5-by-5 inches in length and width, and 2 inches in height - about the size of an Apple TV box. The redesigned Mac mini now includes a power connector, HDMI port, and three USB-C ports (upgraded to Thunderbolt 5), and two regular USB-C ports on the front face.

In addition to its powerful hardware, the new Mac mini also boasts a compact design. The computer features air guides that direct the exhaust through the front vents to help keep it cool. Apple has also announced a video ad featuring a personified small-sized computer for the new Mac mini.

Apple has not yet confirmed any plans to replace the current Magic series of mice, keyboards, and trackpads with products developed by a German manufacturer. However, there are rumours that Apple may be developing new wireless mice, keyboards, and trackpads to replace the current Magic lineup.

Apple plans to unveil more Mac products this week, potentially including new desktops and laptops. The new Mac mini will have storage options up to 8 TB, but the most expensive model will cost an additional $2,400. The new Mac mini will come with 16 GB of RAM, with options up to 64 GB.

The M4 chip in the new Mac mini includes a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, similar to the new iMac. The M4 chip's 16-core neural engine is expected to beat the M2 on background AI performance. The new Mac mini is set to make a big impact in the desktop computer market with its powerful hardware and compact design.
