New Schölkestraße Primary School Opens Its Doors in Brunswick

After 17 months of construction, the new Schölkestraße primary school in Brunswick has officially been handed over and is ready to welcome its first students. The modern learning facility, which was built with an emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency, offers good conditions for up to 200 students and teaching staff.

The total usable area of the school is approximately 1,500 square meters, with a two-story sports hall occupying around 1,300 square meters. The school was constructed using the modular "building block" system, with the contract for the project won by the Bielefelder company Goldbeck Public Partner GmbH.

The sports hall is not only used by the school but also by local sports clubs and the Oswald-Berkhan School. The school is located attractively at the edge of the city, transitioning from residential construction to a meadow landscape. It complements the existing primary schools in the western ring area.

The school was built according to the "Gold" standard of the German Sustainable Building Council, making it energy-efficient, barrier-free, and meeting the QNB Plus quality seal requirements. A large-scale photovoltaic system on the green roof contributes to the school's energy efficiency, operated by the Braunschweig Energy Cooperative.

The city of Brunswick is responsible for the infrastructural building management, including building cleaning, caretaker service (without technical operation), and maintenance of outdoor facilities. On the other hand, Goldbeck Public Partner GmbH will be responsible for future technical building operation.

The project received a grant of approximately 1.6 million euros from KfW Bank as support for its climate-friendly new building status. The total budget for planning and construction of the new Schölkestraße primary school was around 20 million euros and was adhered to.

The school has its own school district and will start this school year with a first grade. The light-flooded staircase serves as the central hub of the school building, connecting the canteen, full-day area, and disabled toilets on each floor. Both the canteen and full-day area have direct access to the schoolyard.

The extended total contractor model was used for the project, with planning, construction services, and selected technical services for building operation until 2047 awarded to a central contractor. Unfortunately, the company that took over the new construction of the Schölkestraße elementary school in its delivery condition is not explicitly named in the search results.

The new Schölkestraße primary school is a testament to Brunswick's commitment to providing modern, sustainable, and accessible education facilities for its growing community. The school is expected to make a significant positive impact on the lives of its students and the broader community.
