New Zealand Tour to Witness Consistency with Boks Selection
The South African Rugby Union has announced the Springbok squad for the upcoming Rugby Championship Tests against New Zealand. The defending champions will face the All Blacks in Auckland on September 6 and Wellington on September 13.
Captain Siya Kolisi leads the team, with Pieter-Steph du Toit, Willie le Roux, and Jan-Hendrik Wessels having been medically cleared from their niggles. The squad consists of 20 forwards and 16 backs.
In the forwards, Lood de Jager, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Thomas du Toit, Jean-Luc du Preez, Eben Etzebeth, Vincent Koch, Siya Kolisi, Wilco Louw, Malcolm Marx, Bongi Mbonambi, Franco Mostert, Ox Nche, Ruan Nortje, Kwagga Smith, RG Snyman, Marnus van der Merwe, Marco van Staden, Boan Venter, and Jan-Hendrik Wessels have been selected.
The backs include Damian de Allende, Andre Esterhuizen, Aphelele Fassi, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Ethan Hooker, Jesse Kriel, Cheslin Kolbe, Willie le Roux, Manie Libbok, Makazole Mapimpi, Canan Moodie, Handre Pollard, Cobus Reinach, Morne van den Berg, Grant Williams, and Damian Willemse.
Makazole Mapimpi is included in the squad, with Kurt-Lee Arendse and Edwill van der Merwe out injured. Jasper Wiese will join the group but will only be available for the Wellington showdown due to a suspension. Cobus Wiese was left out of the squad and has been placed on standby.
The team is taking confidence from the win against Australia in the previous match. Facing the All Blacks in New Zealand is a massive challenge, but the Springboks are ready to rise to it. The Castle Lager Rugby Championship is still wide open with all four teams having won a match in the first two rounds.
