New Zealand Witnesses Debut of MG's High-End Electric SUV Model, IM6
The electric vehicle landscape in New Zealand is about to get more exciting with the arrival of the premium electric vehicle sub-brand, IM. Established by MG Motor, SAIC Motor, ZJ Hi-Tech, and Alibaba, IM is poised to revolutionise the EV market.
MG Motor has announced the launch of IM in New Zealand, with the IM6 Coupé SUV set to be the first model sold locally. This new electric vehicle brand promises to deliver cutting-edge technology and high-performance driving, as demonstrated by the IM6's impressive features.
One of the standout aspects of the IM6 is its intelligent driving system, IM AD. This system has proven its adaptability to New Zealand driving environments, navigating intersections with poor lane markings and providing automated parking assistance for over 30 complex scenarios. IM AD offers safe, comfortable, and reliable driving in complex real-world conditions, making it among the first brands to achieve mass-production capabilities across Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 semi-autonomous driving simultaneously.
The IM6's power system is equally impressive, offering a quasi-900V architecture designed for efficiency, one of the highest in mass-production EVs today. The SUV also incorporates a cutting-edge 800V Silicon Carbide (SiC) platform in its power system.
The IM6 will be available in three variants: the IM6 Premium, IM6 Platinum, and top-tier IM6 Performance. The IM6 Premium, priced at $66,900, features a 75kWh LFP battery and a claimed WLTP range of 450km. The IM6 Platinum, priced at $77,900, boasts a larger 100kWh NCM battery and a WLTP range of 555km. The IM6 Performance, priced at $89,900, uses the 100kWh NCM battery, features an AWD drivetrain, and has a WLTP range of 505km.
The IM6 offers a host of luxurious features, including a 10.5-inch central touchscreen, a 26.3-inch immersive infotainment display, "fully collapsible" chairs, luxury seat finishes, smart device mounting magnets, and 20 high-definition audio speakers.
Peter Ciao, CEO of MG Motor Australia and New Zealand, expressed the dealers' strong desire to include the IM6 in the MG portfolio. The IM6 will be available at MG dealerships across New Zealand later this year, and prospective owners can experience the IM6 firsthand from November 2025.
With its impressive technology, high-performance driving, and luxurious features, the IM6 is set to make a significant impact in the New Zealand EV market.
