New Recruits Set to Join Hauptzollamt Braunschweig: 28 Young Customs Officers to Begin Training

The Hauptzollamt Braunschweig, one of Germany's main customs offices, is set to welcome 28 new recruits on September 1, 2025. This group includes 7 trainees who will embark on a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) programme for the higher customs service, and 21 trainees who will become finance officers in the intermediate customs service.

Interested parties can submit their applications for these positions until October 15, 2025, for the 2026 intake. Detailed information about the application process, appointments, training, and study at the customs office can be found on the websites www.zoll-karriere.de and www.zoll.de.

The theoretical parts of the higher service will be completed at the Federal Administration Academy in Münster, while for the intermediate service, they will be conducted at the training centres of the Federal Finance Administration in Erfurt, Leipzig, Plessow near Prenzlau, Rostock, or Sigmaringen. The practical phases of the training will be spent in various areas of the training customs office, nearby customs offices, customs investigation offices, and suitable areas of the General Customs Directorate.

The dual studies for the higher service will take three years, while the training for the intermediate service will last two years, with theory and practice alternating and building on each other.

After completing their dual studies or training, the young customs officers can expect to be deployed in a wide range of areas of the customs service. The Customs Office offers a secure job with many exciting and varied tasks, contributing to tax revenues, consumer protection, securing jobs, and digitizing administration in Germany.

The new recruits were welcomed in a ceremony, accompanied by a piano performance of the German national anthem and a walkabout. An advanced trainee from the intake year 2024 gave a welcoming speech to the new recruits, and Mrs. Senior Government Councillor Kerstin Müller, the permanent representative of the Main Customs Office management, gave a speech and advised the new colleagues about the generational change taking place.

Mrs. Senior Government Councillor Kerstin Müller will be the permanent deputy head of the Hauptzollamt Braunschweig in 2026. As of September 2025, she holds this position. There is no information about a change or successor for 2026 available from the sources.

For media inquiries, please contact Hauptzollamt Braunschweig Press Spokesperson Dagmar Taeger, reachable at 0531/1291-1016, [email protected], or [email protected].

The new recruits also had a parcours of departments and interest groups at the Main Customs Office in Braunschweig, where they could get a first impression of their future work.
