NFL begins its international season with an unexpected victory for Chargers over Chiefs in Brazil

In a closely contested match, the Los Angeles Chargers emerged victorious against the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL's international season opener at Corinthians Arena. The Chargers secured a 27-21 win, making a significant statement in their season opener.

Head coach Andy Reid of the Chiefs acknowledged that their performance in the first half was not up to par. "We started slower than we would have liked and need to improve in the second half," he admitted post-game. Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs' quarterback, echoed Reid's sentiments, stating that the team did not come out with the right mindset and were beaten by the Chargers.

The Chiefs' struggles continued from their Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Mahomes found it difficult to get the Kansas City offense moving in the first half, and their frustrations increased when Teair Tart of the Chargers was flagged for a personal foul.

Despite the setbacks, Harrison Butker managed a 59-yard field goal before halftime and scored another field goal in the thrilling encounter. Travis Kelce scored a touchdown for the Chiefs via a 37-yard pass from Mahomes, but they again failed to get the two-point conversion. Mahomes added a touchdown run for the Chiefs after the break, but they failed to convert the extra point attempt.

On the other side, Justin Herbert of the Chargers threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Quentin Johnson in the first half. Cameron Dicker added an extra point and a 39-yard field goal for the Chargers, while Johnson scored another touchdown, increasing their lead.

The stadium was packed with red and white Brazilian Chiefs fans, creating an electrifying atmosphere. Colombian singer Karol G provided halftime entertainment, adding to the excitement of the game.

The head coach of the Chargers for the 2025 NFL season, Jim Harbaugh, spoke to the media during Week 1 about preparations for their first game in Brazil against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chargers' victory marks a promising start to their season under Harbaugh's leadership.
