Northern Vietnam district generates over $234 million from lychee farming and associated activities
In the heart of Vietnam, Bac Ninh Province has once again proven its dominance in lychee production. With a bountiful harvest of 205,400 tonnes in 2025, the province surpassed its previous records. This impressive yield represents an increase of nearly 28,000 tonnes compared to 2024, with fresh lychees remaining the dominant product.
The domestic market consumed approximately 127,200 tonnes of these succulent fruits, accounting for nearly 62% of the total output. The remaining lychees were shipped to a diverse array of countries, with China absorbing the majority (77,200 tonnes). The US, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia, the EU, Thailand, Southeast Asian countries, and Middle Eastern countries were among the destinations for Bac Ninh's lychee exports.
The expansion of GlobalGAP standards in Bac Ninh played a significant role in this success. In 2025, GlobalGAP standards covered 173 hectares, nearly doubling year-on-year, and organic production covered 10 hectares. The area under VietGAP standards also expanded, reaching 17,317 hectares, an increase of over 1,500 hectares from 2024.
Lychees produced under these standards were sold at stable prices, with contracts secured by traders from the outset of the season. The prices ranged from VNĐ25,000-35,000 per kilogram for fruits meeting the VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards.
The total revenue from lychees and auxiliary services in Bac Ninh Province exceeded VNĐ6.2 trillion ($234 million), with approximately VNĐ3.7 trillion from lychee sales and VNĐ2.526 trillion from supplementary activities.
The success of Bac Ninh's lychee industry extends beyond the financial realm. Farmers in the province have found additional sources of income through activities such as honey production, agro-tourism, and other services. These activities contribute significantly to rural socio-economic development.
Trade promotion efforts in Bac Ninh were intensified through both offline and online campaigns. During the 'Lục Ngạn Lychee Week - Proud our Produce' event, provincial leaders participated in livestream lychee sales on TikTok Shop and Sendo Farm, generating wide public attention and opening new distribution channels.
The future of Bac Ninh's lychee industry looks bright, with the provincial authorities providing close guidance on production planning, pest control, and farming techniques in line with VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards. The province is poised to continue its role as a leading contributor to Vietnam's agricultural sector and a global player in the lychee market.
