Nuremberg Human Rights Award 2025 Honours Israeli-Palestinian Reconciliation Initiative

The city of Nuremberg, Germany, will play host to a significant human rights event as the Nuremberg Human Rights Award 2025 is set to honour the Israeli-Palestinian reconciliation initiative, "Parents Circle - Families Forum."

Established in 1995, the award is presented every two years to recognise and celebrate the efforts of human rights activists worldwide. This year, the award will be presented to Israeli Robi Damelin and Palestinian Laila Alsheikh for their unwavering commitment to reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians.

The "Parents Circle - Families Forum" is an initiative that has been bringing together Israeli and Palestinian families who have lost a family member due to the Middle East conflict since 1995. The organisation offers educational programs and activities for grief management, aiming to foster understanding and empathy between the two communities.

The award ceremony, scheduled for September 21, will be presented by Mayor Marcus König (CSU) of Nuremberg. Besides Damelin and Alsheikh, the 2025 Nuremberg Human Rights Award will also honour Johannes Borgetto, Richard Reischl, and Immaculate Chienku for their long-standing solidarity and work for refugee rights and integration in Germany.

The award is endowed with 25,000 euros, a testament to the importance placed on human rights efforts. The location of the award ceremony, Nuremberg, holds significant historical importance as a city that played a crucial role in the pursuit of justice during the post-World War II trials.

The Nuremberg Human Rights Award serves as a reminder of the city's commitment to upholding human rights and promoting peace and reconciliation. This year's recipient, the "Parents Circle - Families Forum," embodies these values in their work towards healing and unity in the Middle East.
