Nvidia commands an impressive 94% share in the GPU market, according to recent data, with a projected 27% spike in shipments potentially linked to customers hasting purchases in anticipation of tariffs.

In the second quarter of 2025, the global GPU market experienced a significant shift, with AMD making a notable advancement and Nvidia maintaining its dominance.

According to Jon Peddie Research, AMD held 6% of the GPU market in Q2 2025, a slight increase from previous quarters. This surge in AMD's market share came as Intel's share became too small to register on the chart, with AMD eventually taking over Intel's position.

The quarter was unusual, as midrange and entry-level AIB (Add-in Board) prices dropped, high-end AIB prices increased, and stock shortages were prevalent. These factors, combined with the U.S. government's announcement and subsequent delay of massive import taxes on semiconductor products, including GPUs, contributed to the market's fluctuation.

Despite these challenges, graphics card shipments increased by 27% from the last quarter, reaching 11.6 million units. This increase is likely a temporary blip driven by tariffs and the artificial GPU shortage.

Interestingly, the overall attach rate for desktop PCs increased to 154% in Q2 2025, meaning 1.54 GPUs were sold for every CPU bought by customers. This suggests a growing demand for graphics processing power, despite the market's instability.

However, the future of the GPU market looks uncertain. Jon Peddie Research anticipates a 5.4% decrease in the GPU market between 2024 and 2028. This slump could be driven by several factors, including gamers leaving (or not getting introduced to) PC gaming and the arrival of processors with powerful on-board graphics, such as AMD's Strix Halo chips.

Meanwhile, Nvidia continued to dominate the market, taking in 94% of the GPU market share in Q2 2025, an increase of 2.1% over the previous quarter.

CPU shipments also saw a significant increase, rising by 21.6% from the last quarter, indicating a growing demand for computing power overall.

As the GPU market continues to evolve, the introduction of new technologies and products, such as AMD's Strix Halo chips, will undoubtedly shape its future.
