NYC Debate Schedule and Sponsors for Upcoming Election Announced by Campaign Finance Board
The New York City Campaign Finance Board has announced the debate schedule for citywide candidates, setting the stage for an engaging series of debates in October 2025. These official debates offer New Yorkers a valuable opportunity to hear directly from the candidates who are running to represent them.
The first mayoral debate will take place on October 16, 2025, at 7 p.m., and will be broadcast on NBC 4, co-hosted with Telemundo and Politico. The official candidates participating in this debate include Zohran Mamdani (Democratic Socialist, frontrunner), former Governor Andrew Cuomo (Democrat), Curtis Sliwa (Republican), and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams (Democrat).
WNBC will also host a Mayoral debate on the same day. Candidates who meet the debate stage criteria and opted into the city's matching funds program are required to participate in the debates. However, candidates who aren't participating in the public matching funds program may be invited to the debate by sponsors.
PIX 11, along with partners, will host debates for public advocate and comptroller. The debates for these positions will be held on October 9 for the Public Advocate, October 14 for the Comptroller, and October 23 for the 'Leading Contender' Comptroller debate.
The second mayoral debate will be held on October 22, 2025, at 7 p.m. This debate will be broadcast on WNYC and NY1, co-hosted by Spectrum Noticias, The City, Museum of the City of New York, CUNY's Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and New York Law School's Center for New York City and State Law. In addition, there will be a Public Advocate 'Leading Contender' debate on October 21, 2025, and a Mayoral 'Leading Contender' debate on October 22, 2025, both hosted by NY1 and WNYC.
Trust in government is a critical issue, and these debates aim to provide a source of trustworthy information about the elections. The final schedule of debates based on the eligibility requirements will be announced once data is available.
These debates are an essential part of the democratic process, giving voters the chance to learn about the candidates' positions on key issues and make informed decisions. As the election approaches, New Yorkers are encouraged to tune in and engage in the conversation.
