O2 Telefónica to fill substantial radio frequency gap in Bad Wildbad with new transmitter installation

Bad Wildbad, Germany, has been grappling with mobile network issues for the past two months, as both Vodafone and O2 Telefónica networks suddenly collapsed without warning. The cause of the radio outage remains unclear, with some suggesting technical incompetence or deliberate action, as suggested by the deputy mayor, Ursula Jahn-Zöhrens (SPD).

In an effort to address the issue, Vodafone has been working on the installation of a mobile transmitter as an interim solution. The commissioning of this transmitter is planned for September 12. Meanwhile, O2 Telefónica is set to install a mobile transmitter as an interim solution from September 8, with the network expected to be available to customers in Bad Wildbad by September 19. This transmitter will be installed at St. Bonifatius Church.

Vodafone had initially planned to build a permanent transmitter station more than a year ago, commissioned to contractor Vantage Towers, belonging to Vodafone's group. However, the completion of this project remains undetermined. The delay was due to the dismantling of mobile masts on a district heating plant chimney that was to be demolished.

O2 Telefónica, on the other hand, is also working towards closing the current massive coverage gap in Bad Wildbad. Deutsche Telekom, the company that operates a tower in the western part of the municipality on the Sommerberg, equipped with 4G and 5G technology, is also working on a permanent solution, including technical improvements and network upgrades, to improve network coverage and stability.

Despite these efforts, customers in Bad Wildbad have been helpless for weeks, with many unable to even dissolve their contracts with special cancellation rights due to the network outage. Complaints to customer service have been unsuccessful, leaving the residents and businesses of Bad Wildbad eagerly awaiting the restoration of their mobile communications.

In the meantime, Vodafone also plans to provide an interim solution by setting up a mobile transmitter via truck in Bad Wildbad by August 28. This mobile mast will serve as an interim solution until a new permanent location can be realized.

O2 Telefónica aims to provide the population, guests, and local economy with mobile communications, ensuring that they remain connected in these challenging times. The installation of the mobile transmitters is a step towards achieving this goal, and the people of Bad Wildbad look forward to improved mobile network coverage in the near future.
