Offshore gambling sites face increased scrutiny from the MGCB
Michigan Gaming Control Board Cracks Down on Unlicensed Online Casinos
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has taken a firm stance against unlicensed online casinos operating within the state, issuing a cease-and-desist letter to Tech Zone, Inc., a company based in the Union of Comoros. The targeted websites, which include Orbit Spins, Yabby Casino, Pacific Spins Casino, and Betty Wins, have been offering their products and services in Michigan without a license issued by the MGCB.
According to the MGCB, the websites are in breach of at least three established laws: the Lawful Internet Gaming Act, the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act, and sections of the Michigan Penal Code. The targeted websites have a 14-day period from the receipt of the cease-and-desist letter to comply with the MGCB's demands. No new information was provided about this 14-day period.
If Tech Zone, Inc. does not comply within the given timeframe, the Michigan Department of Attorney General may become involved to pursue stricter legal measures. These could include court orders, injunctions to block operations, civil penalties, and efforts to recover unlawful profits related to unauthorized online casino operations. The MGCB could also initiate enforcement actions, such as penalties and fines, and investigations.
The MGCB has expanded its list of blocked gambling websites in Michigan to more than 130. In a statement, MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams emphasized the importance of combating offshore gambling operators, stating that they pose a serious threat to consumers and the local community. By playing at such websites, players risk exposing their financial and personal information to theft and fraud.
The MGCB used its official statement to remind players of the risks associated with unlicensed sites. The targeted websites lure players with flashy ads and promises of big winnings, but in reality, these offshore operators put consumers at serious financial and personal risk. The MGCB has targeted a single operator, Tech Zone, Inc., in this latest crackdown, but the regulator remains vigilant in its efforts to protect Michigan's players and ensure a safe and fair gaming environment.
