Offshore Services Northern Expanding Fleet with Twelve New Hybrid CTV Vessels
Northern Offshore Services (N-O-S) has made a significant move in the offshore wind industry with the order of twelve E-Class Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs). This new series, featuring hybrid technology, is designed to meet the evolving needs of the sector.
The vessels will be built in collaboration with N-O-S's long-term shipyard partner, Damen Shipyards, at their Singapore-based Peguin shipyard, the same yard that constructed N-O-S's R-Class CTVs.
The E-Class vessels boast a future-proof platform, supporting the transition to electric and alternative fuels. They are equipped with an improved hull design, advanced automation systems to optimize energy efficiency, and a large cargo capacity.
One of the standout features of the E-Class vessels is their hybrid technology, developed by N-O-S. The main engines and generators are combined with batteries to ensure optimized propulsion. The batteries in these vessels can be recharged from shore, and they are prepared for charging directly from wind turbines when on site.
David Kristensson, Group CEO of Northern Offshore Services, described the order as not just a fleet expansion, but a statement of belief in the market and the company's design and ability to lead innovation.
Four E-Class CTVs are already on their way, and eight more are now on order. The first of the new E-Class CTVs, M/V Explorer, is set to arrive in Europe over the coming days.
This order, one of the largest CTV orders in history, includes several options for additional orders, reflecting N-O-S's confidence in the potential of the E-Class vessels. The E-Class vessels build upon the proven design of the D-class series, further solidifying N-O-S's position as a leader in the offshore wind industry.
