Oil spills in five separate incidents occurred in March
In the remote region of Yakutia, five road traffic accidents involving oil spills have occurred this month, raising concerns about the safe transportation of hazardous cargo.
The Department of State Environmental Supervision, a division of the Ministry of Ecology, Natural Resources and Forestry of Yakutia, is responsible for environmental supervision in the region. Andrey Alekseevich Antonov heads this department.
According to current legislation, the driver of the vehicle is responsible for the safe transportation of hazardous cargo. Failure to comply with established rules can lead to local ecological disasters.
When an oil spill incident occurs, state inspectors from the Ministry of Ecology of Yakutia respond promptly. Preliminary measurements of the contaminated area are taken to calculate the damage to the soil, and samples of the natural environment are collected for further analysis.
The Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Yakutia has reminded drivers transporting hazardous cargo to strictly follow traffic rules. An assessment will be made of all oil spill incidents to decide whether to conduct unscheduled inspections with the approval of the prosecutor's office.
In the event of witnessing a traffic accident, it is recommended to call the duty officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at 112 or the unified dispatch service of the municipal district.
The Department of State Environmental Supervision will evaluate the incidents to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent future accidents and protect the environment.
