Okta bolsters privileged access management through acquisition of Axiom Security

Identity security specialist Okta has announced the acquisition of Israeli privileged access management (PAM) startup, Axiom Security. This move is aimed at strengthening Okta's Privileged Access platform with Axiom's PAM capabilities.

Axiom Security offers a cloud-native, identity-centric PAM platform designed to eliminate standing privileges and secure access to critical infrastructure. The integration of Axiom into Okta Privileged Access will enable unified privileged access control, just-in-time access capabilities, expanded connectors, and deeper coverage of infrastructure like Kubernetes and databases.

The acquisition will extend Okta customers' identity security fabric to more privileged accounts and resources, ensuring a single control plane for managing privileged access, whether on-premises or in the cloud. Okta's chief technology officer, Abhi Sawant, stated that the addition of Axiom will help solve more use cases through additional security controls and connectors to critical infrastructure resources.

Okta's solution also offers just-in-time (JIT) access, automated request and approval workflows, as well as user access reviews. With Axiom's JIT functionality, organizations can eliminate standing privileges and provide time-limited access. The integration will bring more connectors through AI-based application connector builder capabilities.

Secure access to Kubernetes and databases will be provided for least-privileged access and full traceability. Post-integration, Okta Privileged Access will equip customers with unified control through a single point of administration for privileged access across all privileged resources, whether on-premises or in the cloud.

The deal terms were not disclosed, but Okta expects the transaction to be completed in September. The integration process is expected to be completed in the coming months. Okta's addition of Axiom will automate permissions for elevated access to environments such as GitHub, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and Amazon EKS.

As more enterprises bring AI into their workforces, Okta's Privileged Access will offer secure access to AI-related resources. The acquisition is expected to bolster Okta's position in the identity and access management market. Further details about the acquisition, including any potential impact on Advania, Cloud Software Group, or Workday, were not provided in the current announcement.
