Old town of Grimma ablaze: fire causes approximately €300,000 in destruction
On Thursday afternoon, a fire broke out in Grimma, a small town in Germany. The blaze, which started around 1:45 PM, was first reported near the intersection of Schulstraße and Weberstraße.
According to initial reports, a vessel initially caught fire, followed by the adjacent carport, garage, and a neighboring building. A large black plume of smoke was visible over the old town, causing concern among residents and passersby.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire. However, the carport, garage, and the neighboring building were completely destroyed, with estimated property damage totalling around 300,000 euros.
The volunteer fire departments of Grimma and Hohnstadt worked tirelessly to bring the flames under control. Their efforts were successful, and the fire was eventually extinguished.
As of Friday, August 29, the cause of the fire remains unknown. However, the police have confirmed that they are investigating the incident on suspicion of negligent arson. It was later reported that the fire was caused by handicraft work by a 37-year-old.
The police have not released any further details about the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the fire. They are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause and any potential responsibility.
The community of Grimma is now left to assess the damage and rebuild. The fire has left a visible mark on the old town, but the spirit of the community remains strong. Residents and local businesses are working together to help those affected by the fire and to restore the town to its former glory.
