"OpenAI Encourages $5 Purchase for ChatGPT Go, While Gemini Attracts Loyalty with Its Services"

In a move to expand its presence in the price-sensitive market, OpenAI has launched a new subscription plan named ChatGPT Go, priced at approximately $5/month (₹399 in India). This development comes after a series of complaints from Free users who felt the service had become cramped following the introduction of ChatGPT Go.

Before ChatGPT Go, OpenAI reduced the message and upload limits for Free users when GPT-5 was rolled out. Prior to GPT-5, Free users had access to 40-50 messages every three hours, but this was reduced to a cap of 10 messages every 5 hours. File uploads, image generation, and other premium tools are severely restricted for Free users.

In contrast, ChatGPT Go offers 10 times more GPT-5 messages compared to the free tier. This means users can engage in more conversations without hitting limits. Additionally, it provides better image generation, file uploads, and longer memory compared to the free tier. After hitting limits, Free users are downgraded to a weaker model with a low message cap.

The user, who has been using Gemini more due to limitations with ChatGPT, finds the responses from the latter more personalized and customized. Despite complaints from Free users about the downgrade with GPT-5, only ChatGPT Plus users saw their message limits doubled.

The user's preference leans towards Google's business model, which provides free services in exchange for advertising data. They also perceive ChatGPT Go as a nudge to consider paying for the service. However, they express a possibility of moving on from ChatGPT by the time ChatGPT Go becomes available, due to the improvements in Gemini.

Despite these changes, the user hopes that Google wins the AI race and continues to be generous with its services. They do not mention any specific facts about the bottom line of the article, but their perspective suggests that ChatGPT Go is a good deal for those who were already planning to pay, and that the Free tier feels deliberately cramped compared to the paid tiers.
