Opposition party CHP initiates measures to prevent a potential trustee from being appointed through an urgent congress meeting.

The Republican People's Party (CHP) of Turkey has announced an extraordinary congress, scheduled for September 21st. This move comes in response to a court decision that annulled the party's Istanbul provincial congress and invalidated delegate credentials.

Approximately 900 signatures from just over 1,000 eligible delegates have shown near-unanimous support for this extraordinary congress. The initiative for this congress did not come from the party leadership, but rather from the delegates themselves.

The extraordinary congress is aimed at implementing a "legal nullity" strategy, a technical, legal move that complies with all regulations. The possible scenarios include the court either upholding the absolute nullity claim, which could annul certain decisions or actions related to the Istanbul Congress of the CHP, or rejecting the claim, thereby validating the contested decisions or actions.

A rally is planned by the CHP in Ankara on September 14th, one day before the critical court hearing. The rally aims to show unity behind the current CHP leadership and prevent any potential court-appointed trustee from taking control of the party leadership. It is important to note that the party chairman cannot stop this process, and the congress decision cannot be prevented by the party chairman or the Party Assembly.

If a trustee is appointed to the party's leadership, they would only remain for six days. After this period, the party would re-elect its elected chairman.

A crucial court hearing on this matter is scheduled for September 15th. The outcome of this hearing could have significant implications for the CHP and its leadership, as well as the political landscape of Turkey. The CHP's extraordinary congress is a significant step in this ongoing legal battle, and it will be closely watched by political observers and the general public alike.
