Optimal Water Discharge Capacity
A Modern Urban Quarter in the Heart of Buxtehude
Buxtehude, a town often referred to as a fairytale town by local poet Wilhelm Schröder, has recently seen the construction of a modern residential and commercial building on its bustling Bahnhofstraße. The new building, spanning an area of 5,000 square meters, serves as an urban quarter for work and living, with Sparkasse spaces, 43 apartments, and several commercial areas.
The three building parts of the complex harmoniously blend into the surroundings of Bahnhofstraße, leading directly into the old town. The building, clad in sand, red, and white-grey, blends harmoniously into the surroundings with staggered building heights.
The company responsible for the realization of this project is HYDROTEC Technologies. The channel system used in the construction features an integrated damping insert, lowering wear on cast parts and ensuring a stable position of the cast cover. The drainage channels are dimensioned according to hydraulic performance requirements, with a nominal size of 400 mm and a construction height of 400 mm.
The drainage system collects surface water from paved areas and channels rainwater from roof areas via downpipes. It serves as a retention system, controlling water release, relieving the sewer system, and preventing flooding. The MAXI PRO linear drainage system, designed for high-demand areas in the heavy traffic sector, is installed along Bahnhofstraße, ensuring fast and safe drainage with a discharge capacity of up to 80 l/s.
The MAXI PRO system has two special screw locks that securely interlock the cover and channel body, making it suitable for roadways, paths, industrial areas, airfields, and harbors with high wheel loads. This robust design ensures the durability of the drainage system, a crucial factor in the town's busy streets.
Sparkasse Harburg-Buxtehude, in collaboration with project company Buxtehude GmbH & Co. KG and the May & Co. corporate group, has constructed this new building for approximately 20 million euros. Some apartments in the new building are rented to the Buxtehude Sports Club, which has established a residential home for handball talents.
Located in the Hamburg metropolitan area, Buxtehude is popular for its historic old town and proximity to the Altes Land, Europe's largest contiguous fruit-growing region. The new building, in the heart of Buxtehude, employs around 50 out of more than 600 Sparkasse Harburg-Buxtehude employees. The complex is intended to symbolize sustainability, efficiency, and commitment to the location of Buxtehude.
