In the heart of the Alps, the principality of Liechtenstein played host to a royal wedding on Saturday. Princess Marie Caroline of Liechtenstein, Europe's richest princess, tied the knot with Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer, a Venezuelan investment manager, in a ceremony held at the Cathedral of Vaduz.

The bride, a 28-year-old daughter of Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein, wore a stunning long white gown adorned with embroidery and puff sleeves. She was accompanied by her father to the church, where citizens cheered in celebration.

The wedding ceremony was followed by a celebration in the castle of the royal family. The current head of state, Prince Hans-Adam II, was among those in attendance. The event was reported by the Princely House, who shared the joyous occasion with the people of Liechtenstein.

Liechtenstein, a constitutional monarchy with a population of around 40,000 inhabitants, is a small principality, half the size of Bremen, situated in the Alps. The Princely House, with its significant wealth from its bank, ownership of properties, and forests, has always been a significant part of the country's history and culture.

The marriage of Princess Marie Caroline and Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer, a commoner, is unusual in the royal circle. However, it is a testament to the modernisation of the Liechtenstein monarchy, which continues to evolve and adapt to the changing times.

According to Lisbeth Bischof, a nobility expert from ORF, such a marriage is usually the other way around. Nevertheless, the people of Liechtenstein welcomed the union with open arms, celebrating the union of their princess and her new husband.

The wedding of Princess Marie Caroline and Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer marks a new chapter in the history of Liechtenstein, and the people look forward to what the future holds for their beloved princess and her husband.
