Over 45 thousand Russians receive income exceeding 1 million rubles
In April 2023, the Statistics Service of Russia conducted an analysis of the distribution of workers' wages across the country. The study, which covered 28.4 million people from 95,400 organizations, excluding small businesses, provided some interesting insights.
Two years ago, most high-income earners were primarily employed in trade, the processing industry, and finance. However, as of April 2023, the situation has changed significantly. The number of people earning more than 1 million rubles per month has nearly doubled compared to previous data, with the share of high-income workers among all working Russians now standing at 0.16%.
The industries with the most high-income earners were the information and communication sector, trade, the processing industry, and financial and insurance companies. Specifically, 9,900 people in the information and communication sector, 6,700 people in trade, 6,300 people in the processing industry, and 6,200 people in financial and insurance companies were earning more than 1 million rubles per month.
Interestingly, most high-income workers in Russia, as of April 2023, were employed in unspecified areas. The Rosstat study in April 2023 did not provide data on the number of high-income earners in the information and communication sector, trade, the processing industry, and financial and insurance companies two years ago.
In addition to the Rosstat study, the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation conducted a separate study. According to their findings, the average desired income of Russians in 2025 will be 146,000 rubles. It's worth noting that this figure is significantly lower than the current high-income threshold (1 million rubles per month). However, the Financial University's study did not provide specific data on the number of high-income earners in Makhachkala, Khabarovsk, and Moscow, nor did it specify the methodology used to determine the average desired income of Russians in 2025.
The study also revealed that, as of April 2023, 34,399 individuals received a salary of up to 2 million rubles per month, and 5,728 individuals received a salary between 2 million and 3 million rubles per month. Unfortunately, the 34,399 individuals who received a monthly salary of at most 2 million rubles in 2023 were not explicitly identified in the provided search results. Furthermore, the study did not cover small businesses.
In conclusion, the data provided by the Statistics Service in April 2023 offers a comprehensive look at the distribution of workers' wages in Russia. While the number of high-income earners has increased, the average desired income in 2025, as per the Financial University's study, is significantly lower than the current high-income threshold.
