Pantone's Color of the Year for 2026: Is Green the Predicted Pick?
In the world of fashion, paint, and design, a common thread is emerging – the colour green. Brands are embracing this hue not for boldness or aesthetic play, but for its ability to evoke balance, renewal, and a deep connection to the natural world.
Erika Woelfel, Behr's vice president of Color & Creative Services, explains that this consensus among forecasters suggests that green may very well be the Color of the Year for 2026. If this prediction holds true, it would mark the return of green, not in its brash, chlorophyll-bright form, but as a sophisticated, subtle, and enduring shade.
Pantone, the authority on colour trends, has not yet officially announced its choice for 2026. However, Lauren Saab, founder of Saab Studios, believes that green could very well be the colour Pantone selects for the year.
If Pantone does choose green, it would be a significant milestone, as the last time Pantone chose green for its Color of the Year was in 2017, with the shade Greenery. This choice provided reassurance amid a tumultuous social and political environment.
Valspar has already made its decision, with its Color of the Year for 2026 being Warm Eucalyptus, a muted sage-like green with gray undertones. Behr Paint, on the other hand, has chosen Hidden Gem, a smoky jade that blends blue and green, as its Color of the Year for 2026.
The fashion world is also saturated with the colour green. Brands such as Gucci, Prada, and Saint Laurent have incorporated various shades of green in their Spring/Summer 2025 collections, ranging from high-energy chartreuse to refined military shades. Gucci, in particular, made a statement at Milan Fashion Week by replacing its iconic red with deep green, signalling themes of renewal, balance, and sustainability.
Editors at Better Homes & Gardens favour several shades of green for 2026, including Olive Brown, Light Dusty Teal, Energetic Green, and "Ugly Greens" with greater amounts of yellow and olive. Meanwhile, Peter Martinez, co-founder & fashion stylist/designer at the fashion brand Leather Skin Shop, predicts that menswear will lean into "hunter, olive, and clay greens," while womenswear will embrace "mineral and sea-glass tones."
The Women's Tennis Association has also rebranded with a bold green, and Boots' organic skincare line, "Botanics," has switched to a "dark, mossy green" to emphasize their philosophy in 'the power of plants.'
Multiple forecasters agree that the fashion world is aligning around the values that green represents. As we move towards 2026, it seems that green is not just a colour, but a symbol of balance, renewal, and connection to the natural world.
