In an effort to improve cleanliness and public health, the city of Tauberbischofsheim is implementing a new initiative in its beloved Badgarten park. This initiative, inspired by similar actions taken in Bad Wimpfen (Heilbronn district) and Goslar (Lower Saxony), aims to address the issue of dog waste in public spaces.

The city has decided to mark unremoved dog waste with distinctive flags over the next three months. The flags, not intended to shame dog owners but to raise awareness among them, are a visual reminder of the responsibility dog owners have to remove their pet's waste.

The municipal yard will be responsible for removing marked dog waste, ensuring a clean and safe environment for the park's visitors, particularly families with children who frequently use the park.

The city emphasises that the goal is not to publicly shame dog owners but to highlight the disruptive impact of dog waste on public spaces. The dog waste management initiative is not a sponsored or advertised event, but a community-driven effort towards a cleaner and healthier city.

City staff will monitor the park once or twice a week, and failure to remove dog waste may result in a fine. It's important to note that the initiative is not limited to WhatsApp, Facebook, messaging service X, or email sharing, but is open to all members of the community.

While the past use of flags in other cities did not lead to a long-term reduction in dog waste, Tauberbischofsheim is hopeful that the action will raise awareness and have a more significant impact. The city is hopeful that this initiative will foster a sense of responsibility among dog owners and contribute to a cleaner and healthier Badgarten park.

As the city of Tauberbischofsheim embarks on this new initiative, it encourages all dog owners to be mindful of their responsibilities and to contribute to maintaining a clean and safe environment for everyone to enjoy.
