In a disappointing turn of events for the Düsseldorf-based Düsseldorfer EG (DEG), they suffered a 10:2 loss against the Berlin Polar Bears in the Eishockey Bundesliga on Friday, February 14th.
The game started disastrously for DEG, with Ty Ronning scoring the first goal for the Polar Bears just 34 seconds into the match. Liam Kirk, Eric Hördler, and Frederik Tiffels followed suit, giving Berlin a commanding 4:0 lead before the first period ended.
The second period saw Korbinian Geibel, Lean Bergmann, Marcel Noebels, and Ronny (no last name given) score for the Polar Bears, extending their lead. Alexander Blank and Laurin Braun managed to score two consolation goals for DEG, but it was not enough to turn the tide.
Berlin's Leo Pföderl and Tiffels added additional goals, making the final score 10:2 in favour of the Polar Bears.
Despite the loss, DEG's position in the standings remained unchanged, as their direct competitor, the Iserlohn Roosters, also lost in Bremerhaven.
The high ambitions of the Düsseldorf team going into the game after the international break were not realized. Alex Blank, after the game, stated that the entire Düsseldorf team played poorly.
Düsseldorf's coach, Steven Reinprecht, made a substitution in goal, replacing Henrik Haukeland with Nikita Quapp after the Berlin Polar Bears scored their eighth goal.
Looking ahead, DEG will aim to bounce back in their next game, which will be away in Iserlohn on Friday, February 21st, with the face-off scheduled at 7:30 PM. Despite the loss, Düsseldorf remains at the top of the table, with a one-point lead over both the Iserlohn Roosters and the Augsburger Panthers.
