Passion for Soccer and Bolivia's Heartbeat
===============================================================================
In the heart of South America, a man named Eddie Avila found his passion for football. Born in the United States to Bolivian immigrants, Eddie's initial interest in the beautiful game was limited. However, that all changed in 2010 when he attended the Argentina vs. Bulgaria match during the World Cup in Dallas, Texas.
Growing up, Eddie had little connection to football. But as he watched stars like Messi and Tevez grace the field, he felt a sense of belonging that he had never experienced before. It was then that Eddie's love for football was ignited.
Eddie's connection to football deepened when he moved to Bolivia permanently in 2007. Cochabamba, his new home, became the backdrop for many of his most cherished memories. One such memory is witnessing Bolivia's historic 6-1 drubbing of Argentina in a World Cup qualifying match, a game that Eddie was fortunate enough to attend.
The World Cup of 2010, however, was not held in Bolivia. It took place in the United States. Yet, Eddie managed to secure tickets to multiple matches, including the one that sparked his love for the sport.
Eddie's fascination with the World Cup began even earlier. In 1994, Bolivia qualified for its first and only World Cup appearance in history. His father, well-versed in the ticketing process for the World Cup, had travelled to the United States to watch Pelé's Santos team play against Deportivo Municipal in La Paz, a trip that Eddie wishes he could have taken when he was the same age.
Over the next ten years, Eddie's trips to Bolivia became more frequent and longer. He found himself immersed in the vibrant football culture, often watching World Cup qualifying matches in La Paz. These experiences have left a lasting impression on him, shaping his identity as a Bolivian at heart.
Eddie's connection to football has allowed him to establish new roots and find commonalities with millions of other Bolivians. In 2014, he plans to continue his World Cup journey in Brazil, where Jorge Wilstermann, his local club team, won a national championship that year. Eddie is looking forward to securing a front row seat for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, should Bolivia qualify.
However, another World Cup qualifying cycle has neared completion, and Bolivia was eliminated. Despite this setback, Eddie remains hopeful and continues to cherish the memories he's made through his love for football. After all, it's not just a game—it's a passion that unites millions across the globe.
