Gütersloh Welcomes 21 New Recruits to Educational Service
On August 25, 2025, the city of Gütersloh welcomed 21 new recruits to their educational service. The occasion marked the beginning of a journey for these individuals, as they embarked on their paths to become early childhood educators.
The induction days were meticulously organised by Irina Bollweg from the Personnel and Organization department, with the assistance of Viola Sombray. The program included a variety of sessions, covering aspects of the city administration, the employee app, external offices, job ticket costs, and evaluation talks.
Henning Matthes, Deputy Mayor of Gütersloh, addressed the new recruits, expressing his gratitude for their choice to join the city's largest department. He emphasized the importance of early education, stating that the educational service is about accompanying children in their first important steps.
Among the new recruits, ten are beginning a practice-integrated training to become kindergarten teachers. Six are starting their recognition internship, while five are beginning the practice-integrated training to become childcare workers. The city's training program ensures a solid and structured training, with practice tutors intensively accompanying the new recruits.
Andrea Körber, deputy head of the daycare department, also addressed the new colleagues. She mentioned that the new recruits will be an important part of the team that cares for over 3,500 children in 22 facilities. The practice-integrated training (PiA) offers opportunities for trainees to work practically with children, parents, and colleagues.
The trainees and interns have a lot of room for their own ideas, which they can bring in, for example, in the form of their own projects in the learning workshops. Icebreaker games and a joint lunch were also part of the program, fostering a sense of camaraderie among the new recruits.
