Performing artiste Lady Gaga to grace the VMA stage, holding a commanding 12 nods in various categories
The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are back for another year of music, glamour, and fan-voted accolades. This year's event promises to be a spectacular show, with a lineup of talented artists, exciting performances, and prestigious awards.
Fan voting is now open on the VMAs website, covering 19 categories, and will close on Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. Eastern. Voters can cast their ballots up to 10 times a day. The public's voice will be heard in determining the best new artist, as voting for this category will continue into the live show.
Leading this year's nominations is Lady Gaga, who has amassed a total of 12 nods throughout her career at the VMAs. She has also been added as a performer for the event, set to take the stage alongside an impressive roster of artists. Tate McRae, up for four first-time nominations, including song of the year and best pop artist, will also be performing.
Other confirmed performers for the VMAs include Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, Post Malone, Conan Gray, and Tate McRae herself. The show will see the debut of Sombr, a singer-songwriter and producer, as well as the return of Lady Gaga, who last performed at the VMAs in 2020, singing hits from her album "Chromatica."
In addition to the performances, the 2025 VMAs will honour several artists with special awards. Mariah Carey will receive this year's Video Vanguard Award, an honour previously bestowed upon artists like Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Pink. Ricky Martin will be honoured with the inaugural Latin Icon Award, recognising his significant contributions to Latin music and pop culture.
Rapper Busta Rhymes will receive the first ever MTV VMA Rock the Bells Visionary Award, celebrating his impact on hip-hop and his ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of the genre. LL Cool J, who is also nominated for the best hip-hop award for his single "Murdergram Deux" featuring Eminem, will host the ceremony.
The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards will air on Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. Eastern, live from the UBS Arena on New York's Long Island.
