Philharmonic Orchestra from Berlin, led by Maestro Muti, performs in Bari and Bologna

The Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari will play host to a remarkable cultural event on May 1, as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra takes the stage, led by the esteemed conductor Riccardo Muti. The performance will include a blend of classical music by Rossini, Verdi, and Brahms, promising an unforgettable evening for music lovers.

Prior to the main event, an open rehearsal will be held on April 30 at 5:45 pm, inviting students, citizens, and even the city's welfare services to witness the orchestra's preparations.

Meanwhile, in Milan, two captivating productions are set to enthrall audiences. The long-running musical "Mamma Mia!" will be performing from April 30 to May 11, featuring popular songs like "Mamma Mia!", "Super Trouper", "Lay All Your Love on Me", and "Dancing Queen".

Simultaneously, the original English production of the opera "The Name of the Rose", based on Umberto Eco's novel, is premiering at La Scala from April 30 to May 3, 6, and 10. This adaptation, with music by Francesco Filidei and a libretto by Filidei and Stefano Busellato, has been running in London for 26 years. The Italian production will be conducted by Ingo Metzmacher and directed by Damiano Michieletto.

The cast for "The Name of the Rose" includes notable artists such as Kate Lindsey, Daniela Barcellona, Carlo Vistoli, and Roberto Frontali. The opera will return to Broadway in August, marking its return to the stage where it ran for 15 years initially.

For those who miss the live performance, Rai Cultura has recorded the Milan performance for delayed broadcast, and the audio recording of the opera is available on RAI Radio Tre until May 3.

Another event is scheduled for May 2 at the PalaDozza in Bologna, as part of the Bologna Festival. An introduction to the opera will be held one hour before each performance by Liana Püschel.

The first film adaptation of "Mamma Mia!", released in 2008, was shot in the Greek islands of Skopelos and Skiathos. A sequel, "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again", was released in 2018.

The Berlin Philharmonic's visit to Bari, the premieres of "The Name of the Rose" and "Mamma Mia!" in Milan, and the open rehearsal in Bari on April 30 are not to be missed for anyone seeking a cultural extravaganza in Italy.
