Pioneering Live Production Innovation through the Use of Language Models
Moments Lab to Showcase AI-Powered Video Discovery Agent at IBC2025
Moments Lab, a pioneer in AI-powered video production, is set to demonstrate its new Discovery Agent at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) 2025. The event will take place in Hall 14, with the IBC Accelerator Zone being the specific location.
The Discovery Agent, an AI-powered research assistant, is designed to simplify the video production process. Unlike traditional keyword searches or requiring technical know-how, the Discovery Agent offers a natural language, chat-style experience. This makes it easy for users to find precise clips, quotes, or scenes from their media library quickly.
The project, titled AI Assistance Agents in Live Production, is a collaborative effort involving universities such as the University of Freiburg (UFR) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), private sector partners, non-university research institutions, cities, municipalities, districts, civil society including NGOs, chambers and associations, research and economic promoters, and media.
Moments Lab joined the IBC Accelerator program to contribute to the innovation of Large Language Models for live news production. The project aims to integrate Moments Lab's Video Discovery Agent with other production tools via Application-to-Application (A2A) connections through an orchestration layer.
The media industry is seeking genuine AI integration rather than experimentation, and the project is working to achieve this goal. Moments Lab's contribution to the project helps news organizations understand what's possible, providing real-life examples of how AI can be used to uncover video moments that producers never knew existed.
The project also aims to potentially reshape control room workflows by allowing AI agents to navigate run orders, detect errors, preempt potential issues, and control production systems through natural language commands.
Visitors can see the Discovery Agent demo at Moments Lab's stand (#7.C22) in Hall 14 at IBC2025. The Final Showcase Session for this year's projects will take place on Friday 12th September at 12:30pm CET on the Future Tech Stage.
Moments Lab is working with various partners in the project, including CUEZ, Amira Labs, Highfield AI, Monks, Cuepilot, Shure, EVS, and Google.
The biggest challenge faced in the IBC Accelerator project is narrowing the scope due to the numerous AI use cases. However, the project team is committed to pushing the boundaries of AI integration in live news production.
