In a thrilling game at PNC Field on Saturday evening, the Syracuse Mets emerged victorious against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, securing a 2-0 win.

The decisive moment came in the bottom of the eighth inning when T.J. Rumfield found himself with the bases loaded and just two outs. However, a line drive towards third base was caught by Luke Ritter, ending the inning for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The scoring began early in the game when Yonny Hernandez hit his first home run of the season, putting the Mets in front, 1-0. In the ninth inning, Syracuse scored an insurance run. Luisangel Acuña doubled, and he came around to score on an RBI single by Ryan Clifford.

Brandon Sproat was the star of the show for the Mets, pitching seven scoreless innings and striking out nine batters. He allowed just three hits and two walks, demonstrating exceptional control and precision. Over his last 11 games, Sproat has a 2.44 earned-run average through 59 innings pitched.

The RailRiders had their best chance to score in the bottom of the eighth inning, but Sproat held firm, ensuring the Mets' victory. In the ninth inning, with one out, Jeimer Candelario singled for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, bringing the potential tying run to the plate, but it was not to be. The next batter, Braden Shewmake, hit a groundball to shortstop Luisangel Acuña, who recorded a double play to end the game.

With the win, the Syracuse Mets improved their record to 66-65, with a road record of 35-21. The RailRiders, who have a home record of 39-17, now stand at 77-51.

The series between Syracuse and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre concludes on Sunday. Brandon Waddell is scheduled to pitch for the Mets, with Erick Leal slated to go for the RailRiders. The first pitch of the game on Sunday is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Kevin Parada will start for the Syracuse Mets on Sunday.

Hernandez has reached base in 30-straight games, a testament to his consistent performance throughout the season. The Mets will be aiming to carry this momentum into their final game against the RailRiders and continue their push towards the playoffs.
