In regional news from Chemnitz, our website SACHSEN - Das Sachsenradio reports that the city of Plauen is undertaking significant renovations at its miniature railway station. The news was announced by Marcel Kaiser, the head of the miniature railway, on the internet.

The revamp, expected to cost 1.5 million euros, will see the station building, over 60 years old, completely rebuilt in the coming months. The funding for these renovations comes from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), with the city of Plauen financing the project itself.

The modernization will include gutting and renovating the station, making the entrance and sanitary facilities barrier-free, and constructing a new snack bar with a covered outdoor area. The cabin facility at the miniature railway is also part of the renovations.

A notable addition to the station will be a new locomotive shed, which will be modernized later on. The modernized station is expected to be reopened by May 2026, according to Marcel Kaiser.
