Pleasant weather observed in North Rhine-Westphalia during the weekend

With the arrival of September, North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) is gearing up for a weekend filled with excitement and sunshine. The high pressure system Nina is bringing late summer weather to the region, with temperatures expected to reach up to 29 degrees on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

Yesterday, Gelsenkirchen city launched a special programme for fans parallel to the Pur concert. Meanwhile, in Warstein, Sauerland, the Montgolfiade event is underway, featuring 150 colorful hot air balloons. This event is just one of many happening in NRW this weekend, with the Ed Sheeran concerts taking place in Düsseldorf, the Caravan Show, and the Montgolfiade also gracing the calendar.

Outdoor activities are suitable for this weekend, with bike tours, visiting festivals, sports events, and some outdoor pools all being viable options. However, there is a warning in place regarding swimming in the Rhine. Currently, swimming is banned in seven NRW cities, and it is strongly advised against due to the potential danger.

The weather on Monday morning will see a mix of sun and denser clouds, with occasional showers or thunderstorms, and temperatures ranging from 19 to 25 degrees. Tuesday will bring more clouds, with rain here and there - sometimes heavy and occasionally with lightning and thunder, with temperatures of 20 to 24 degrees. From Wednesday, it will be drier, according to the German Weather Service.

As we move towards the middle of the week, the weather forecast indicates a transition from warmer, summer-like conditions early in the week to cooler, autumnal weather from midweek onward. Thursday to Sunday will see a cooling trend with some rain and showers mainly in southern Germany and a fresher northwesterly wind, while northern and central areas will be drier and partly sunny. By the weekend, temperatures will range mostly between 16 and 21°C under prevailing high pressure but with cooler air limiting warming.

So, while the weather may take a turn from Monday to Tuesday, the weekend promises to be sunny and perfect for enjoying the exciting events happening across NRW. However, remember to heed the warnings regarding the Rhine and ensure a safe and enjoyable weekend for all.
