Police in Göppingen seized racers driving at excessive speeds on Wednesday, with one reaching 78 and the other 84 km/h in a restricted zone.
In a bid to promote safer driving and prevent accidents, the Göppingen police conducted speed checks on Ulm Street late last night. The operation, which was highlighted in a news article published by news aktuell, emphasised the importance of adhering to speed limits and driving responsibly.
According to the information provided by Ulm Police Headquarters, two drivers were found to be driving significantly over the speed limit of 50 km/h. One driver, a 22-year-old BMW driver, was clocked driving 28 km/h over the limit, while another, a 24-year-old VW driver, was driving 34 km/h over the speed limit.
Excessive speed is one of the main causes of accidents, as emphasised by the police. Accidents involving excessive speed often have severe consequences, with serious accidents having lasting effects on both victims and perpetrators.
The fines and penalties for the speeding drivers were imposed by the police. The 22-year-old BMW driver will be fined at least 180 euros and receive one point. The 24-year-old VW driver can expect a fine of at least 260 euros, two points in Flensburg, and a one-month driving ban.
The head of the Ulm police headquarters is Chief Commissioner Hans Müller, who advised drivers to slow down to ensure everyone arrives safely. Drivers are also warned not to overestimate their abilities and to account for others' mistakes.
