Police in Poland report incidents of arson, physical attacks, and vehicle thefts
In the city of Lüdenscheid, two recycling containers were engulfed in flames on Friedrichstraße and Wiesenstraße.
On Sunday evening at 20:30, a recycling container on Friedrichstraße was completely burned out. The police department in Märkischer Kreis reported the incident, which is currently under investigation for suspected damages.
A 51-year-old homeless man was found to be the suspect in the theft of an Opel car from Am Hang earlier that day at 6:35. The man started the car with the key still in the ignition and drove off, leading to the vehicle sustaining damages that were not there before.
The stolen car was later found at a gas station on Werdohler Landstraße, and the man was arrested by the police. Upon his arrest, the man was found with a bottle of vodka. The man was released on Monday after the completion of criminal police measures.
A 36-year-old Lüdenscheider was driving the stolen car outside the vehicle, spreading salt, according to initial reports. The exact cause of the container fires in Lüdenscheid is currently unknown.
Another recycling container on Wiesenstraße caught fire on Monday morning at 7:45. The police are seeking witnesses to both incidents and are investigating the possibility of arson.
The driver of the stolen car is under suspicion of drunk driving and endangering traffic, as a blood sample was taken from him. However, initial reports suggest the driver was only cold and the car offered protection.
At this time, there is no available information about who set fire to the recycling containers on Friedrichstraße and Wiesenstraße. The investigation is ongoing for driving without a license, unauthorized use of the car, and suspected hit-and-run.
The Circles Police Department in Märkischer Kreis is urging anyone with information regarding the container fires or the stolen car incident to come forward and contact the authorities.
