Police Investigating El-Rufai's Volatile Political Gathering in Kaduna

In a move aimed at maintaining peace and public safety, the Kaduna State Police Command has announced an investigation into an alleged political meeting linked to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The gathering, held without prior notification to security agencies, reportedly led to a clash and sporadic gunshots.

The Command has warned that hotels, event centres, and similar facilities will be liable if they host political gatherings without first notifying security agencies. This warning comes as the Command has suspended all unauthorised political gatherings across the state until due process and proper security arrangements are ensured.

Preliminary findings indicate that the gathering, which was reportedly convened under the platform of the African Democratic Congress Coalition, involved thugs and political gangsters allegedly attached to El-Rufai. However, the African Democratic Congress leadership has denied any knowledge of such a meeting and distanced themselves from any gathering linked to El-Rufai.

The Kaduna State Police Command has launched an inquiry from the ADC party secretariat to keep the records straight. The Command has not yet made any official statement regarding El-Rufai's statement about relying on him for electoral victories being a suicide mission, nor his claim of a merger with the ADC.

The Command has also not yet made any official statement regarding the SDP's criticism of El-Rufai as a self-serving desperado. The Command, however, has made it clear that no one is above the law and that anyone found culpable, irrespective of their position, will be prosecuted.

The incident occurred on an unspecified date, and the search results do not provide information about which political party allegedly organized the supposed meeting under the leadership of Nasir el-Rufai. The statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, was issued on Saturday.

The Command's action is in the overall interest of peace and public safety, as it seeks to ensure that political gatherings are conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner. The Command's commitment to upholding the law and maintaining peace is commendable, and it serves as a reminder that everyone, no matter their status, must adhere to the rules and regulations governing political activities in the state.
