Police motorway station at the police headquarters in South Hessen officially opened

In Hanau, a significant shift in the security landscape is underway, with the introduction of two additional community police officers this month as part of the new security architecture in the Main-Kinzig district.

The changes were marked by the inauguration of the South-East Hesse Police Highway Station on August 28, 2025, a milestone that also signifies the completion of the implementation measures of the new security concept. The event was attended by Interior Minister Roman Poseck, South-East Hesse Police Headquarters President Daniel Muth, and Hanau Mayor Claus Kaminsky.

The South-East Hesse Police Highway Station, now centrally located, is responsible for approximately 330 kilometers of highways and expressways in the area of the police headquarters. It oversees the important east-west connection A 66 between Schlüchtern and Frankfurt, as well as a section of the A 3, one of Germany's most significant traffic axes.

The new acting head of the South-East Hesse Highway Police Station is Police Commissioner Timo Rosenberger. With a career spanning various positions, including deputy head of the highway police, Rosenberger, at 48, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He has already accompanied the move to the new premises and expressed his enthusiasm for his new position.

Senior Police Commissioner Christian Kreß, who has led the station for many years, will soon retire. His departure is part of the restructuring of the security architecture of the South-East Hesse Police Headquarters.

The South-East Hesse Police Highway Station handles a wide range of tasks annually, including recording around 2,000 accidents, traffic monitoring and prevention, controlling commercial goods and passenger traffic, and pursuing criminal suspects. The new location is expected to improve both the traffic connection and the operational effectiveness of the highway police.

The new security structure also includes the establishment of local community police officers. A community police officer is permanently stationed at the police stations in Bad Orb and Schlüchtern, aiming to foster a more community-oriented police presence in the Hanau and Main-Kinzig district.

The inauguration of the South-East Hesse Police Highway Station sends a strong signal for increased security in the region, benefiting the district and its residents through enhanced presence and improved safety measures. The name of the police chief of the Süd-Ost-Hessegau Police Headquarters remains undisclosed at this time.
