Police President Gregor Lange Emphasizes Importance of Spiritual Support for Police Employees
Police President Gregor Lange, the new chair of the advisory board for the Church Police Service of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia, emphasized the role of spiritual support for police employees in stressful deployment situations during a meeting held on August 27, 2025, at the auditorium of the police headquarters.
The advisory board, consisting of police pastors, a theological advisor, seven police officers, a professor of police science, a psychologist, and Lange himself, observes societal developments, problems of police daily life, and develops appropriate proposals for the service of police chaplaincy.
Five pastors are currently employed full-time in the field of Church Police Service, providing spiritual care and psychosocial support for the employees of the police. Lange aims to strengthen the trust of the population in the police institution and recognise the needs of police employees to develop solutions with the church to promote their mental health.
Lange highlighted the importance of cooperation between the police and socially important organizations like the church for the success of peaceful coexistence and social cohesion. He expressed a positive conclusion at the end of the advisory board meeting and looks forward to the upcoming cooperation, making a joint contribution to a respectful and peaceful coexistence in society.
