Political Accusations in Gaza: Former Member of Parliament (BE) claims Middle Eastern Nation (MNE) serves as a public justification for the government's explanations.

In the political landscape of Portugal, the Left Bloc has taken a significant stride by announcing a proposal for a law that sets a maximum limit on housing rents, which they plan to submit to Parliament.

Amidst this development, Mariana Mortágua, a prominent member of the Left Bloc, is making headlines for her participation in a humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza. Departing from Barcelona, Spain on September 4th, Mortágua, accompanied by the former President of the Barcelona Chamber, Ada Colau, hopes to reach Gaza in the next two weeks.

The Bloco's intentions extend beyond Gaza and housing rents. They are also planning to debate various topics, including a parliamentary commission of inquiry into aerial means and the fight against fires, the start of the school year, new labor legislation, and the aforementioned rent cap law.

However, the road ahead seems challenging, as Mortágua has criticized the current government, labelling it as the most dangerous in the country, and anticipating difficult times for the left.

The Bloco's stance on the Palestinian cause has also been a point of contention. José Manuel Pureza, a candidate for the Municipal Chamber of Coimbra and university professor, has been vocal in his criticism of Paulo Rangel, who stated that the Bloco has never done anything for the Palestinian cause. Pureza, who believes the Bloco was the first to propose the recognition of the State of Palestine, has also criticized Rangel for his excuses regarding Portugal's non-recognition of Palestine and the denial of the practice of genocide in Gaza.

Despite communication difficulties, a live intervention by videocall from Mortágua during the Socialism 2025 Forum was planned but had to be cancelled. Instead, a short pre-recorded video of over a minute was used. In the video, Mortágua referred to Gaza as "the moral compass of our times."

In a second video message, Mortágua expressed her great hope to break the blockade on Gaza, as thousands of people from various nationalities supported the departure of the boats. The Bloco's participation in this humanitarian mission underscores their commitment to global issues and their dedication to standing up for what they believe in.

The Socialism 2025 Forum, with 651 registrations, 43 debates, and 61 interventions, was the largest ever, according to José Manuel Pureza. This event further demonstrates the Bloco's influence and reach in the Portuguese political arena.

As the Bloco continues to make waves in Portuguese politics, their focus on key issues such as housing, the Palestinian cause, and the school year, among others, will undoubtedly shape the national discourse in the coming months.
