Political figure Salahuddin calls on BNP leaders to begin preparations for approaching elections

In a significant development, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has declared his intention to contest in the upcoming elections. Addressing a council in Chattogram, Ahmed called upon party leaders and activists to begin preparations for the polls, scheduled to be announced in December.

The event, chaired by Enamul Haque, was also attended by prominent BNP figures such as District BNP President and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury, Chattogram South District BNP former Convener Abu Sufian, former MP Advocate Hasina Ahmed, BNP Chattogram Divisional Assistant Organising Secretary Mir Helal Uddin, and Cox's Bazar District BNP General Secretary Advocate Shamim Ara Swapna. The council was moderated by M. Mubarak Ali.

Ahmed expressed his concerns about the emergence of a "fascist" regime, referring to the current government, and accused them of burying democracy and snatching away people's right to vote through midnight elections. He also criticised the Proportional Representation (PR) system, stating that those advocating for it have ulterior motives.

Under the PR system, voters cast their ballots for a symbol, unaware of who will become their Member of Parliament. Ahmed emphasised the importance of exercising voting rights to realise these rights and urged party members to go to the doorsteps of voters, reach out to them, and seek votes for the BNP.

The BNP leader also highlighted the sacrifices made by the people over the past 16 years to secure their democratic and constitutional rights. He urged the party members to remember these struggles and work towards a free and fair election.

The council concluded with a call for unity and preparations for the upcoming general election. Ahmed's announcement is expected to boost the morale of the BNP supporters and kick-start the party's election campaign.
