Polling Stations in Buenos Aires Shut Down; Anticipation Surrounds Election Outcomes

In the heart of Argentina, the province of Buenos Aires is bracing for a significant political event tonight. Javier Milei, president of La Libertad Avanza, is expected to be present in the La Libertad Avanza bunker on the outskirts of La Plata as the results of the election for the renewal of the two chambers of the Buenos Aires Legislature unfold.

This election holds a strong symbolic significance as La Libertad Avanza and the Peronist conglomerate, Pro against Patria, face off. The tenth election in the country has taken place today, with a total of 23 Senate seats, 46 seats for the Buenos Aires Legislature, council members, and school board members in the 135 municipalities at stake.

The historic Kirchnerist dominance in the third electoral section (La Matanza and the south of the conurbano) and the possibility of winning or coming close in the first (west and north of GBA) make this objective very likely for the Peronists. These two constituencies account for 70% of the provincial roll.

However, Javier Milei is trying to show that he has expanded his influence in the Buenos Aires Legislature. La Libertad Avanza has harvested several seats in recent elections, including a first-place finish in the City of Buenos Aires. The party has also secured second place in Jujuy, Salta, and Chaco, among others.

Sebastián Pareja, the coordinator of La Libertad Avanza in the Province of Buenos Aires, stated that the election was a good one, despite allegations of stolen ballots. The Milei government expects to impose an alternative reading: the count of seats. The interior sections, with much fewer voters, contribute similar numbers of deputies and senators.

The Peronists are also excited about a good performance in La Plata (eighth section) and the fourth section. Governor Axel Kicillof is betting on showing that he put a "brake" on Javier Milei's model in the most decisive district with a victory for the Peronists.

In the exit polls, Patria was ahead in the first and third electoral sections, the two most populated regions of the province. However, the first official results of the election will be known from 9 PM. The Province of Buenos Aires has 38,788 polling stations, and voter turnout had surpassed 50% of the 14,376,592 registered voters by 4 PM.

Meanwhile, Javier Milei's sister, Karina, voted this afternoon at a school in Vicente López, accompanied by heavy security and avoiding press questions. The election is expected to mark the race towards October, with the result in seats almost identical for each of the forces, according to Milei. However, libertarians will be watching the global difference, as they assume that the result will mark the race towards October.

The election is a crucial test for both Milei and the Peronists, with the winner expected to set the tone for the upcoming October general elections. Stay tuned for the latest updates as the results start rolling in tonight.
